  • What is Project Open Books?
    Project Open Books is committed to improve and promote access to age-appropriate LGBTQIA+ books and stories. Our goal is to give the gift of a book to create more inclusive spaces, whether that be in a home, a classroom, an office or in a place of gathering. Project Open Books, Inc. is a registered 509(a)(2) charitable organization and is recognized under IRC Section 501(c)(3).
  • How does this work? Are the books really free?
    Yes! All our books are available for free. Once you find a book you like, please request it here. Include your name, mailing address, email address and phone number. This allows us to ship the requested book to you as soon as possible. This information remains confidential and will not be shared.
  • How are the books free?
    Project Open Books, Inc. is a registered 509(a)(2) public charity and funded entirely by individual contributions. Individual donors who believe in our mission make it possible for us to purchase and provide books at no cost to the requester.
  • How do I request a book?
    Requesting a book is easy! Once you find a book you are intrested in requesting, complete the form here. If you have any trouble, please contact us below. We are glad to assist!
  • How do you choose the books in the free Project Open Books library?
    The books in the free Project Open Books library are chosen based on personal recommendation, research and third party review. If you have a book recommendation or concern, please contact us below or at
  • Can my book request remain anonymous?
    Absolutely! We do need a valid mailing address to send the book(s) to and a way to contact you to confirm the details. If you'd prefer to not include your name on the request form here, type "anonymous" instead. The mailing address can be any address that accepts packages via United States Postal Services.
