Have you ever felt like you just wanted to hug a book and never let it go? This book was truly a gift from start to finish, and I think it will forever go down as one of my top favorite books. It’s a story about identity, falling in love, and recognizing the love you deserve. Everyone should read this book, and Kacen Callender just turned into an instant auto-buy author for me.
FELIX EVER AFTER is empowering, heartwarming, heartbreaking, informative, and romantic all wrapped into one amazing book that is beautifully written. This YA novel makes you recall how hard growing up was in those years. Felix’s life is at a whole new level--being both trans and Black, experiencing bullying, abuse, and microaggressions on a daily basis. Felix feels so real. He makes mistakes; he isn’t perfect; and he struggles with his identity. There are other characters you’ll also love, characters you’ll hate, and characters you’ll feel conflicted about. I was blown away by the conversations these seventeen-year-olds had discussing gender identity, perspectives, and feelings. This book made my heart beat faster and faster with pure joy and happiness. Love and hope are spread throughout this novel.
Looking for a book in which the characters are having the same difficult yet necessary conversations about gender identity and belonging? Then request FELIX EVER AFTER. You won’t regret it!
